Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in Mexico City a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he lost control at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619 seconds behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
